Russian A One Interview with Placebo
Brian: our new album called Battle For The Sun and when we fisrt started to work on it we had a picture in our heads of 3 persons come to a point like in cartoons with super cool guns and message like “now you are gonna get some sun energy dude!” i felt myself super hero because of that. but, seriously, all our new albums are reaction of our previous album. Meds was very-very dark album, it’s like if you take microscope and be watching someone’s pain through it. there were suffering and claustrophobia in it. when we were working on the new album, we wanted to make something more positive, bright, colorful, open and available. if Meds was small slide from a movie, then Battle For The Sun is something huge like cinema’ screen.
The main message of the new album can sound like: “if you go to the toilet and you leave shit on the toilet bowl’s walls, then you better clean it up, because there will other be people who want to use toilet too.”
Honestly, we really worked hard on this album. different bands with different producers spend a lot of time in the studio to make live sound, y’know. and we are working on it too and only God knows if we are succeed in it or not. i want to believe with help of David Botrill, our new producer, we made it on Battle For The Sun album and come very close to our goal - live sound.
Journalist: new album become debute for the new drummer of the band - Steve Forrest.
Brian: we got new drummer - Steve. he’s really talented and easily became a part of our band. we have been know each other for a long time, so there were no problems about him. we all got spark between us at the first sight. i think the way he makes sounds really siut to our band, and at the same time he brought new blood in our sound. i don’t know how he feels being in our band, but for me the way he did in our album is his best work in his entire life. we learn from each other many things. for me this collaboration is fantastic.
Stef: i seem we gave him to understand that it’s really attractive job to get money being drummer in Placebo band.
Journalist: let’s get him to speak! c’mon Steve! all russian drummers are waiting for you to say something wise!
Steve: ehh… hmmm.. umm.
Brian: we don’t actually let him speak.
Journalist: Placebo have been in Russia a few times and they got some memories.
Brian: i wanna open a secret to all our russian fans. when we were in Russia last time there was a world competition in our hotel about the most long cake. and when we first came into that hotel i took a look at that cake and said: “no way. they couldn’t make it.” and on the day of our departure we got down to the place where competition was going and saw that caked was broken in the middle. and then i noticed traces of cake in the underwear of people from our band - our guys got into cake. so i was right - cake didn’t win, that pastry chef couldn’t break the world record. and it happened exactly because of Placebo. can you imagine that? i’m sure he hates us.
Stef: yeah, i remember our concerts in Russia. it was amazing! our concert ended when there were almost no people in the parterre - people leaved when we were playing. and we thought: “are we sound so shity? what’s going on?” and then we were told that people just needed to get home early.
Brian: everytime when we played in Russia we got fucking awesome audience - very emotional and crazy!
Journalist: in spite of first track of the new album that we heard - Battle For The Sun - guys made video about another song - For What It’s Worth.
Brian: we made video, but haven’t seen it yet. but i hope we are looking cool in there, so it will be worth it then
